Conference summary

Parental Educative practices in a society of (in) change

Currently, the families are facing challenging situations, the different patterns of family types and the co-responsibility taken on by the institutions have been to change the concept of parenting.

The styles of family education and the relationship forms have changed due to the new economic, social and cultural demands. As a consequence of this matter, the principle of positive parenting (warm, protective, stable and affective ties; structured environment through routine and habits to achieve norms and values; a stimulation and learning opportunities in family and school support; recognition of the relationships, activities and experiences of life, training and non-violent education) must be the general framework of social policies (resources, services, programs, etc.) of the family support.

All families, not only those at risk, should benefit from this perspective, of the prevention and promotion. In spite of the great progress made, it keeps being a great challenge. The main goal of the symposium is to analyze and reflect on the conditions in which parental practice is carried out, and about the educative strategies used by parents, in order to strengthen the parental competences which can help the families, schools, and communities to face the current educational challenges and to develop healthy, adaptive and autonomous ways of working for a society of (in) change.
