Symposium abstract
Psychology has a social responsibility to address the challenges posed by the 21st-century society, including the promotion of psychological well-being and the prevention of mental health problems. Psychology, from a position of scientific and professional rigour, seeks to promote enhanced mental health of children and adolescents in educational contexts, with the firm conviction that everyone deserves accessible, timely, inclusive, public, and high-quality psychological care.
This symposium addresses various topics centered on the promotion, protection, and care of mental health in educational contexts. Different research studies on issues related to mental health and psychological well-being will be presented from an an inclusive, non-stigmatizing, and psychologically focused perspective, based on the strengths and available empirical evidence.
The first presentation explores the importance of stigma associated with mental health in educational settings. The second discusses the covitality model and its relationship with different psychometric indicators of psychological adjustment. The third presentation focuses on suicidal behavior, presenting the results of the Positivamente 2.0 program for the prevention of suicidal behavior in Spanish schools. The fourth communication presents the results on the efficacy of the unified protocol for the transdiagnostic treatment of adolescents with emotional symptoms in educational contexts. Finally, the fifth presentation examines, from a longitudinal perspective, the relationship between school belonging, well-being and mental health during adolescence.
The results derived from this symposium have clear implications for the promotion of psychological well-being and the prevention of psychological problems in educational contexts.
