Psychopathic traits generate considerable concern and interest in society, as evidenced by their presence in the media, films and fiction in general. However, the treatment of this phenomenon sometimes gives rise to misconceptions that do not do proper represent its complexity. For this reason, this symposium will focus on the approach to this phenomenon from different perspectives in relation to childhood and adolescence. Specifically, the relationship between these traits and dark personality with various externalizing behaviors, such as aggressive behavior, bullying or substance use, will be analyzed in both longitudinal and cross-sectional studies. The neurocognitive profile of children who score high on psychopathic traits and conduct problems will also be analyzed. With regard to the precursors of psychopathy, the need to examine the appropriateness of assessment instruments in the juvenile offenders population is also addressed. Often, despite these instruments are particularly relevant in the field of juvenile justice, these instruments are only validated in the community population. However, this does not involve that these instruments will work adequately in the juvenile justice field. Therefore, these communications provide a global perspective on psychopathic traits, their assessment and their impact on externalizing behaviors that can have serious consequences in students of different ages and backgrounds.
