Symposium abstract
Adolescence is a fundamental stage in the development and formation of a person, since it is during this stage that the search for personal identity takes place, and it has a great influence on self-esteem and socio-emotional development (Sánchez-Pazos, 2020). At this stage, biopsychosocial changes are rapid and constant, and can be the origin of stressful situations and a source of emotional vulnerability (Bailen et al., 2019). Specifically, there is a high prevalence of mental disorders present in adolescents, which can reach 20% of the population (Anglim et al., 2020; Bailen et al., 2019). Among other situations, it is necessary to identify some situations or conditions that can negatively impact socio-emotional problems, such as presenting neurodevelopmental disorders such as Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD), repeating a grade, or the gender of adolescents, among others (Aguilar, 2020; Anglim et al., 2020, Filipiak and Lubianks, 2021; González and Álvarez, 2022; Marchesi et al., 2018).
Therefore, the objective of this symposium is to analyze the effect of some variables such as repeating, presenting a learning disorder, or gender on internalized problems (anxiety and depression) and externalized problems (anger, aggression) and on personal resources (self-esteem, social competence, and awareness of the problem) in adolescents.
